As a consequence of Brexit, UK- and Gibraltar-based registrants will no longer qualify to hold .EU domains based on their county of residence. Instead, individual registrants must demonstrate eligibility based on citizenship in a remaining EU member state. If they are not able to demonstrate eligibility, they will eventually lose their domain.

EURid, the .EU registry, recently released an updated timeline that details how they will handle this transition.

EURid will be reaching out to impacted registrants on Dec. 21, 2020, to alert them that:

They should take action to update their contact details to demonstrate continued eligibility by December 31, 2020.

If they are not able to demonstrate eligibility by December 31, 2020:

Their domain will be "suspended" on January 1, 2021, and will no longer resolve or be able to support any services (website, email. etc.)

On April 1, 2021, any suspended domains will be placed into "withdrawn" status. And finally, on January 1, 2022, these withdrawn domains will be revoked and made available for registration to the public.

What do you need to do?

Right now, what's most important is that those registrants who can, demonstrate eligibility prior to December 31, 2020, so they avoid having their domain suspended.
